My wife Michele and I have been married for twenty-two years and we have two wonderful children, Daniel and Mark.  Michele is a radiology technician at Paoli Hospital where she has assisted many local women with their health care needs.  She is a dedicated wife and mother who truly loves her work and helping the patients she serves.  We live in East Goshen Township and attend St. Peter & Paul Church in East Goshen Township.  I love it here in Chester County and you can count on me to fight to preserve the quality of life we all enjoy here.

Michele and I are very active in our children’s lives.  As an Eagle Scout myself, I have always understood the importance of community service and helping others.  That is why we have encouraged our sons to do the same and why I have volunteered thousands of hours in leadership roles to their scouting activities and the activities of other local children.  I have also volunteered my time at my sons’ school as a guest lecturer for computer science.  I believe the saying that our children are our future is true and I always strive to keep this in mind when working with young people.

About Dan

I am a family man, businessman, taxpayer and proud to say “outsider” who has the courage to stand up to the politicians and will use my private sector experience to cut spending, control taxes, help employers create jobs and reform Harrisburg to protect our tax dollars.

Like many who live here now, I was born and raised in southeastern Pennsylvania and grew up in a close knit family with my mother and father.  My dad worked as an electrical engineer for GE and my mom raised the family.  Today, my father, George, lives in Hershey Mill.  Together, my parents taught me the importance of commitment to family, hard work, service to community and using common sense.

Education has always been important to me and continues to be today.  After graduating early from high school at the age of sixteen, I attended Drexel University for two years before needing to go back to work to save money to pay for the rest of my college education.  While working full-time at GE, I registered as a full-time student at Villanova University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  I later earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from West Chester University.

After working for local companies in the electrical engineering field, I decided it was time to go into business for myself.  I formed Truitt Engineering and have been in business for more than ten years.  As a small businessman, I have experienced firsthand the government bureaucracy, red tape and tax structure that continues to prevent Pennsylvania from being competitive with other states and nations – and makes it harder rather than easier for small businesses to create jobs for citizens.  This must change if we are going to attract new employers and encourage our current employers to create the family sustaining jobs necessary to grow our economy.  This is not only necessary for the employers, but for the workers who need good paying jobs.

I am not a politician.  I’m a businessman, taxpayer and proud to say “outsider” who knows we must reform state government in order to save and protect our tax dollars.  The politicians and bureaucrats need to understand that we the taxpayers are not their personal piggy banks.  They need to do what we have done in our homes and businesses – cut out waste and prioritize budgets.

You can count on me to have the courage and conviction necessary to stand-up to the political leaders in order to cut spending and force government to live within its means like we do as families.  The politicians do not deserve better pensions then those of us in the private sector.  I will work to enact legislation to change the state pension system to the same 401(k) type of retirement plans that we have.  And it is just common sense that legislators should only be reimbursed for submitted expenses – like those of us in the real world – and not receive a $140 plus per day in per diems just for showing up.

I will work hard to meet every voter to discuss your ideas and concerns.  Please contact me if you have questions and I would appreciate your support in the General Election on November 2, 2010.
